Wet End Removal & Installation, Standard Spa Pump
Previous Page Pump Index

Note that the purpose of this section is to show you how to remove & install a spa pump wet end and new pump motor.    While every effort is made to be sure that virtually all areas of complexity are covered, you may find it more difficult or sometimes easier to accomplish this task.  Use common sense.  If the wet end that you have on your spa is a lot different from what is depicted here, then do not use these instructions. This is page 3 of this procedure.

Safety Warnings!
Remove Power from the spa/hot tub BEFORE performing this procedure.  Failure to comply with this requirement, can lead to electrical shock and/or electrocution!
Disclaimer

The instructions here are intended for general reference only.  Many pumps are different from the one depicted here, and may require more or less mechanical effort or knowledge in order to achieve the desired results.

Bring the wet end to the pump shaft and assemble.
Bring the wet end to the pump motor and insert the shaft into the impeller opening.  You may be able to start the 4 motor 'through bolts' into the wet end, but don't try to tighten them yet.

I use my fingers to stop rotation of the impeller.... Use screwdriver to tighten armature shaft to impeller.
I use my fingers to stop rotation of the impeller while it is tightened down.

Using a screwdriver, tighten the armature to the impeller.  It is normal to feel increased resistance as you turn the shaft, because the pump seal will 'spring-load' against the ceramic base seat in the housing.  Once the rotation stops, don't tighten any further.  Normal rotation of the motor will keep the impeller tight.

Tighten the through-bolts to the wet end. Replace the rear cover.
Now it's time to tighten the through-bolts into the wet end housing.  Don't tighten any of them down all the way until you've at least gotten all of them started into the threads.  Once you've gotten this far, tighten all four in an X fashion.  Finally, once installed and hooked up electrically, assemble the rear cover to the motor, and tighten the retaining screw..
Assembly of the pump is now complete.    Previous Page
