Wet End Removal & Installation, Standard Spa Pump
Previous Page Next Page

Note that the purpose of this section is to show you how to remove & install a spa pump wet end and new pump motor.    While every effort is made to be sure that virtually all areas of complexity are covered, you may find it more difficult or sometimes easier to accomplish this task.  Use common sense.  If the wet end that you have on your spa is a lot different from what is depicted here, then do not use these instructions. This is page 2 of this procedure.

Safety Warnings!
Remove Power from the spa/hot tub BEFORE performing this procedure.  Failure to comply with this requirement, can lead to electrical shock and/or electrocution!
Disclaimer

The instructions here are intended for general reference only.  Many pumps are different from the one depicted here, and may require more or less mechanical effort or knowledge in order to achieve the desired results.

Remove retaining nuts from the new pump motor. Since this is a new pump motor, we must first remove the through-bolt retaining nuts so we can attach the wet end.

Remove rear motor cover Lubricate shaft with Waterlube.
First remove the motor rear cover to gain access to the wiring connections and the armature shaft.

Use Waterlube brand anti-corrosion lubricant to coat the pump shaft and the water slinger.  This will prevent shaft rusting in the future, which can lead to premature front bearing failure, and splitting of the impeller.

Assemble spring seal to impeller Don't forget to put impeller in housing before assembly!
Assemble the pump spring seal on the impeller shaft.  On a center discharge style Aqua-Flo wet end, there is a small rubber o-ring that goes on 'before' the spring seal.  With this in place and seated, put the impeller into the wet end housing.
Lubricate O-Ring. Lubricate threaded retaining nuts.
Lubricate the housing o-ring with Waterlube lubricant to ensure a positive, long lasting seal.

I like to put Waterlube just about anywhere that corrosion control is an issue, particularly on the threaded inserts to prevent corrosion of the screws.

Now put it all together...
... and tighten with screwdriver....
Carefully put the lubricated o-ring back on the cover plate and assemble the two halves together, then tighten the cover screws.
Assembly of the wet end is now complete, click to go on to the next page.    Previous Page
