Note that the purpose of this section is to
show you how to remove & install a spa pump seal for an
Aqua-Flo® FMHP style spa pump. While every
effort is made to be sure that virtually all areas of complexity are covered,
you may find it more difficult or sometimes easier to accomplish this
task. Use common sense. If the pump that you have on your pool or
spa is a lot different from what is depicted here, then do not use these
instructions. This is page 3 of this procedure.
Safety Warnings!
| Remove Power from the spa/hot tub BEFORE performing this
procedure. Failure to comply with this requirement, can lead to
electrical shock and/or electrocution! |
Disclaimer
|
| The
instructions here are intended for general reference only. Many pumps
are different from the one depicted here, and may require more or less
mechanical effort or knowledge in order to achieve the desired
results. |

This example of pump seal replacement is on a
Aqua-Flo® FMHP style spa pump. An FMCP style is virtually
identical. In years prior to 1987, a 5 piece pump seal was
used. In this sequence only a 3 piece version is installed. The
installation sequences are quite similar. This is page 3 of this
procedure.

| Now's a good time to Waterlube everything. The shaft, the
impeller... (but not the seal!). Then I screw the impeller back onto the
shaft, and reinstall the flow isolator/wear ring. |
|
 |
 |
 |
Well, you can almost never use
too much Waterlube. I always like to cover the wet end face plate o-ring,
the screw inserts, the pump union threads, and the sealing surfaces... as well
as the original o-rings in the disconnects that are in the spa. Waterlube
virtually guarantees that you won't have a problem with leakage, and protects
vulnerable parts of the assembly from corrosive water conditions. You can
obtain Waterlube, a product of Rick Harman Enterprises,
here. |
Finally, what I usually do, is
re-mount the face plate, spin the screws in quickly with a drill... but always
stop short. Then manually tighten the screws in a star shape fashion
until the face plate is seated all the way in. Never use a drill or screw
gun to tighten the screws! You will pull out the threaded brass
inserts that the screws go in to. |
