Valve Section Replacement,
Valterra/Magic Plastics
Previous
Note that this section is intended for repair of an existing split
type 'slicer' valve. In this example, I'm using a Valterra center section to replace a
freeze damaged Magic Valve of the same type. No preferences to either brand, as they're both
good valves. The Valterra is what I had available at the time for a replacement.

Remove Power from the spa/hot tub BEFORE
performing this procedure. Failure to comply with this requirement, can lead to electrical shock
and/or electrocution!
In most cases, you must also drain the
spa prior to beginning this procedure.

In this image, you can see in the highlighted
area that this particular valve has split in the handle section, causing quite a serious spa leak
when the pump is turned on.
This replacement is documented rather quickly, with
few pictures, but it's really nothing more than common sense. That is, 4 bolts hold the valve
together. Inside there are two gaskets that, after a number of years, usually begin to
leak. Adding bad water quality to the mix does accelerate the rate of deterioration.

First thing to do is remove the four through bolts
that are holding the assembly together. In this case, I was also able to remove half of the
assembly from the spa so I could work on it separately.

Thanks to some perfectly sized gaskets from Onyx Water
Products, I set this thing up so that the gasket seats around the protruding ring edge from the flange.
.
Using Permatex Number 2 sealant, I apply a light
coating on the flange.
Then position the gasket.

The new valve comes assembled as a 3 piece
assembly, so what I've done is remove the bolts and separate the new internal valve and gaskets
from the new flanges.
Then, I do the same application of Permatex on the
mounted flange, along with a gasket.
Then I reassemble all the components, and install
the new bolts that were removed from the new valve.
All that's left now is to refill the spa, and check
for leaks.
